Uncensored New York is an artist run organization focused on creating an environment where people can grow and get support for artistic endeavors. We open our door to all walks of life.  Our educational resources and public programming will create new pathways for artistic recognition and engagement outside of institutional systems, centering the experiences of working-class artists and those without formal education. By documenting our history and expanding public access through exhibitions and programming, we aim to shift who art is for and how it circulates. This work strengthens a growing network of creative expression, offering tools, visibility, and support to artists often left out of the mainstream art world.

Our work centers on fostering artistic practices that challenge dominant narratives. We create space for critical expression across disciplines and support work that exists outside traditional institutional frameworks—prioritizing experimentation, autonomy and the urgent need for artists to speak freely in a climate of increasing socio-political pressure. At present, our activities include curating exhibitions, facilitating collaborative projects and supporting the development of new work across visual art, sound, film, performance, and theory.

We are particularly invested in alternative distribution strategies that circumvent mainstream systems—exploring tools like physical media exchanges, informal networks and grassroots gatherings. To date, our efforts have prioritized action, collaboration, and responsiveness—often unfolding in informal, fluid ways that resist institutional codification. However, we recognize the need for a more tangible reflection of this work. As such, we are in the early stages of producing the first Uncensored New York Art History Textbook. This publication will serve as both an archival document and a pedagogical tool, synthesizing four years of artist collaborations, curatorial projects, community organizing, and theoretical exploration around censorship, resistance, and creative autonomy. The textbook will offer clarity and continuity to a platform that has, by nature, existed somewhat outside traditional visibility. It will include contributions from artists, educators, and writers involved in our programming, and will function as a regional resource for independent arts education.

Our work continues to evolve through exhibitions, educational programs and public engagements that foreground access and experimentation. Future programming will deepen our commitment to art history as a living, artist-driven project—one that is not only reactive to censorship but generative in its strategies for visibility, empowerment, and collective memory. Looking forward, we will expand our programming to include a deeper engagement with education, dialogue, and cross-border collaboration. This includes workshops, reading groups and studio-based learning environments that explore the role of censorship historically and in contemporary life. We also plan to build on our commitment to decentralized distribution through platforms like Profane Realm // Reino Profano, using USB exchanges and other analog/digital hybrids to promote open circulation and meaningful connection between artists and audiences.

Our audience includes working-class artists, individuals without formal academic training, and broader communities who are often excluded from traditional art institutions. We prioritize accessibility—both in content and format—by centering voices that challenge dominant narratives and operate outside of elite cultural frameworks. Our work will be presented through exhibitions, screenings, publications, live events, and public interventions. Each format is chosen to support the integrity of the work and to foster real engagement—often outside the bounds of commercial or institutional expectations. In everything we do, we remain committed to supporting bold, uncensored artistic expression and cultivating a resilient, inclusive community around it.
